How it works

Three steps, about a minute

  1. Paste your description

Add the title and short description too, if you like.

  2. Read the phrase tables

One-, two- and three-word phrases, with count and density.

  3. Fix what's overused

Words above 3% are flagged so you can vary them.

What you get

  • Phrases, not just words

Two- and three-word phrases show the keywords Google Play actually reads in your text.

  • Overuse warnings

Anything that reads like keyword stuffing is marked before a reviewer or a reader notices.

  • Track your keywords

Enter the keywords you care about and see how often, and where, each one appears.

The guide

How keyword density is counted

Density is how many times a word or phrase appears, divided by the total number of words, as a percentage. A 300-word description that says "sudoku" 9 times has a sudoku density of 3%. Two- and three-word phrases are counted the same way and listed only when they appear more than once.

Using the results

  • On Google Play, the description is indexed. Make sure your main keywords appear, especially in the first lines, but say them in sentences people would write.
  • Words marked "Overused" make up more than 3% of the text. Swap some for synonyms or cut the sentence.
  • Tracked keywords show which field each one is in. A keyword missing from the title and short description carries much less weight.

Questions

Short answers about the keyword density checker and the store rules behind it.

What is a good keyword density for a Google Play description?

There is no exact number. Mention your main keyword a few times where it reads naturally, usually somewhere between 1% and 3% of the words. Past about 3%, the text starts to read as keyword stuffing, which Google Play's spam policy forbids.

Does keyword density matter on the App Store?

Not for search. Apple doesn't index the description; it ranks on the app name, subtitle and keyword field. Density still helps you spot repetition that makes the text tiring to read.

What does "Hide common words" do?

It hides words like "the", "and" and "your", and phrases that start or end with them, so the list shows the words that carry meaning. Turn it off to see every word.
