Product launch announcement examples: emails, posts and press releases for apps
Product launch announcement examples and templates for an app or game: launch email, newsletter, LinkedIn, Instagram and X posts, a short message and a press release.
· 6 min read

Short answer: a good product launch announcement says who the app is for and what it does in the first line, shows it, gives one honest reason it exists and ends with one clear action ("download it", "try the first level", "tell me what's missing"). The examples below use one made-up app, Shiftly (a shift tracker for nurses that works offline), so you can see the same launch written for email, a newsletter, LinkedIn, Instagram, X, a direct message and a press release. Copy the structure, not the words.
What makes a launch announcement work?
- The reader comes first. "Track your shifts without signal" beats "We're thrilled to announce Shiftly 1.0".
- One idea per message. An announcement isn't a feature list. Pick the one thing that matters most to this audience.
- Proof, not adjectives. A screenshot, a 20-second video or one real detail ("works on night shifts in basements with no signal") does more than "revolutionary".
- One clear action. Each extra link halves the chance anyone clicks the one that matters.
- Honest asks. Ask for feedback or a share. Never ask for a store rating or offer anything in exchange for one.

Subject: Shiftly is live: your shifts, even with no signal
Hi Sam,
You signed up a few months ago to hear when Shiftly launched. It's out today on Android and iPhone.
Shiftly tracks your shifts, overtime and breaks, and it works fully offline, so it keeps working on the ward where your phone has no signal.

It's my first app and I'd love to know what's missing for you. Just reply to this email; I read every one.
Priya, nurse and maker of Shiftly
Why it works: the subject line says what it is and why it matters, the first line reminds them why they're getting it, and there's one link and one honest ask.
Product launch newsletter example
For an existing newsletter or audience, lead with the story, then the launch.
Subject: I built the app I needed on night shifts
For two years I wrote my hours on the back of my hand, because every shift app I tried needed signal. This month I finished building one that doesn't.
What it does: logs shifts, breaks and overtime in two taps, works offline, and exports a monthly summary you can check against your payslip.
What's next: shift swaps with colleagues, which three of you asked for.

Product launch LinkedIn post example
LinkedIn rewards a short story with a professional angle. Put the link in the post, not "link in comments" bait.
After 9 years as a nurse, I've just launched my first app.
Every shift tracker I tried failed in the same place: hospital basements with no signal. So I spent my evenings learning to build one that works offline.
Shiftly logs shifts, breaks and overtime in two taps and gives you a monthly summary to check against your payslip.
If you work shifts (or know someone who does), I'd love your honest feedback: what would make you use it every day?

Product launch Instagram post example
On Instagram the image or Reel does the work and the caption backs it up.
- Image or Reel: a hand opening the app in a dim corridor, logging a shift in two taps, with the caption "No signal? Still works."
- Caption:
Built for night shifts, basements and lifts with no signal. 🏥
Shiftly logs your shifts, breaks and overtime offline and adds it all up at the end of the month.
Free on Android and iPhone. Link in bio.

Short launch message example
For friends, colleagues and group chats. Personal, no pressure.
Hey! The app I've been building is finally out. It's a shift tracker that works offline: [link]. If you have five minutes, I'd really value honest feedback on what's confusing. No worries if not!
Don't paste the same message into every group you're in. Send it where people know you or where sharing your work is welcome.
Product launch press release template
Most small apps get more from a personal pitch to one journalist than from a press release, but some sites and local news desks still ask for one. Keep it to one page.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
[City], [date]: [Company] launches [App], [what it does] for [who]
[One paragraph: what launched, for whom, the problem it solves and where to get it.]
[One paragraph: why you built it, with a short quote from you.]
[Three bullet points: the main features, in plain words.]
[Availability: platforms, price, languages, link.]
About [Company]: [two sentences.] Press contact: [name, email]. Press kit with screenshots and logo: [link].
See how to get press coverage for your app or game for who to send it to.
Product launch announcement template
When you're stuck, fill in these five lines and then adapt them to each channel above:
- Hook: [Who] can now [do what] without [the pain].
- Show it: [screenshot, GIF or short video].
- Why: I built it because [one honest reason].
- Different: [two or three specific points].
- Ask: [download / try this one thing / tell me what's missing].
What mistakes should I avoid?
- Opening with "We're excited to announce". Nobody is excited for you yet.
- Listing every feature. Pick the one that matters to this audience.
- Sending the same text everywhere. Rewrite it for each place.
- Adding five links. One link, one action.
- Asking for store ratings or offering rewards for them. It breaks App Store and Google Play rules; ask for feedback instead.
Next steps
Write your hook line today and turn it into the email and one social post first. For the launch board version, see how to write a launch post, and for the full timeline, the app launch checklist. Then submit your app to TrueLaunch to pick a launch day and collect honest reviews from people who try it.
Frequently asked questions
What should a product launch announcement include?
Who it's for and what it does in the first line, a screenshot or short video, one honest reason you built it, two or three things that make it different and one clear action.
How do you write a product launch email?
Send it to people who asked to hear about the launch. Use a subject line that says what it is and why it matters, keep the body under 150 words, include one button and invite replies.
Do small apps need a press release?
Rarely. A short personal pitch to one relevant writer usually works better. Keep a one-page release and a press kit ready for sites that ask for them.
Should I post the same launch announcement everywhere?
No. Keep the same core message but rewrite it for each channel: a story on LinkedIn, a visual on Instagram, a short hook on X and a personal note by email.
