How it works

Three steps, about a minute

  1. Add your name and subtitle

Words there are already indexed, so they don't belong in the field.

  2. Paste your keyword field

Comma-separated, exactly as in App Store Connect.

  3. Copy the cleaned field

Spaces, repeats and wasted words removed, bytes counted.

Paste it as it is now, commas and all.

Optimized keyword field

Add your keywords on the left and the cleaned-up field shows here.

What you get

  • Byte-accurate

Apple counts the field in bytes, so accented letters and other scripts are counted the way it does.

  • Every removal explained

Repeats, plural twins, filler words and words already in your name are listed with the reason.

  • Room to grow

See exactly how many bytes you freed for new keywords.

The guide

How the App Store keyword field works

The keyword field is a hidden, comma-separated list of up to 100 bytes in App Store Connect. Apple combines it with your app name and subtitle to decide which searches you can appear in. It builds phrases from single words on its own, so "photo, editor" can match "photo editor" without spelling out the phrase.

What the optimizer changes

  1. Splits your list into single words and joins them with bare commas.
  2. Removes exact repeats and plural twins ("game" and "games").
  3. Removes words already in your app name or subtitle.
  4. Removes filler words such as "app", "free", "the" and "iphone".

Your order is kept, so the keywords you listed first stay first. Fill the bytes it frees with new words you'd like to be found for.

Questions

Short answers about the ios keyword field optimizer and the store rules behind it.

Should I put spaces after commas in the App Store keyword field?

No. Apple splits the field on commas, and a space after each one costs a byte you could spend on another keyword. Write keywords as "puzzle, logic, brain".

Do I need both singular and plural keywords?

Usually not. Apple matches singular and plural forms of most English words, so "game" covers "games". Keep the one you'd rather show up for and use the space for a new word.

Should I repeat my app name's words in the keyword field?

No. Apple indexes the app name, subtitle and keyword field together, so a word in the name already counts. Repeating it there wastes bytes.

Why are words like "app" and "free" removed?

Apple already matches "app", and words like "free", "the" or "and" are too generic to help you rank. The optimizer removes them; put any back if you have a reason to keep them.
